Defining Projects
Projects are the work items Workable needs to place on the timeline. In the Plan tab, you describe what each project needs so the scheduler can decide when it can fit and who can do the work.
Project Priority
Section titled “Project Priority”The order of projects in the list determines their priority. Move the most important projects to the top with the drag-and-drop handles before you build the schedule.
Priority matters because:
- High-priority projects are scheduled first
- If resources are constrained, low-priority projects may not be scheduled
- The scheduler will attempt to fit as many projects as possible while respecting availability
Skill Requirements
Section titled “Skill Requirements”Skill requirements tell Workable what kind of people each project needs.
Click Add Skill Requirement on the project, choose the skill from the list, and enter the quantity needed. Then choose whether that skill is needed for All weeks of the project or only for Specific weeks.
For example, a project might need:
- 2 Frontend Developers for all weeks
- 1 Backend Developer for all weeks
- 1 UX Designer for weeks 1-2 only
- 1 QA Engineer for the final 2 weeks only
Team Size
Section titled “Team Size”Team size tells the scheduler how many people you want on the project overall.
Set the Team Size to the number of people you want working on the project. The scheduler tries to assign exactly that many people.
When Workable counts who is assigned:
- Skill requirements contribute their quantities
- Required people and Required teams are combined with de-duplication
- Consultants are not counted toward team size or validation
Project Duration
Section titled “Project Duration”Set the project duration in your chosen planning unit so Workable knows how long the work should run.
The scheduler uses that exact duration when it builds the schedule.
